Care for Life
Pets are living longer, healthier lives than ever before. In the past 50 years, for example, the lifespan of the “average” dog has nearly doubled. Today after puppies are weaned, they can be expected to live 12 years or more. About 35 percent live 10 to 15 years, and some even live into their 20s. By seeing to it that pets receive proper nutrition, exercise, diligent home care, plus the advantages of advanced veterinary health care that includes vaccinations, early disease detection, and new treatment and control options, pet owners like you can claim a share of the credit for these statistics.
Puppies & Kittens
Puppies and kittens are as vulnerable as they are adorable. Immature immune systems can't fight off disease. And the protection received naturally through their mother's milk can interfere with the early vaccinations, making it difficult to pinpoint when the vaccines stimulate immunity. That's why these youngsters need vaccinations several times during the first months of their lives. Puppies and kittens also need special exams and treatments for parasites, and need to be started on a heartworm prevention program. Due to overpopulation and health concerns, we also recommend that your pet be spayed or neutered. Unless you have breeding plans, this is the most humane answer for domestic pets. A nutritional needs analysis and behavior counseling round out the care at this important stage of life.
Adult Dogs & Cats
Adult dogs and cats need regular exams, which should include a physical and also wellness testing. Vaccinations and nutrition checks are also essential to your pet's overall well-being. Here's where your input is particularly important. Because we believe your pet needs individualized care, we'll ask for your input in defining your pet's lifestyle. The more we know about your pet, the better we can provide ongoing protection for your best friend.
Seniors
Seniors need extra attention—from both you and us. So when your best friend becomes a senior (around seven or eight years), regular wellness exams should include a few extra tests to catch possible illness before they become serious. Ask us about our senior pet examinations, expanded screenings, disease prevention programs, nutritional analysis, and behavior counseling geared specifically for your pet's rich “golden years.”
These are essential needs for happy ferrets, rabbits, and rodents as well.
